The Leopard wishes you all a Happy New Year.
There’ll be a session upstairs at The Leopard pub, Burslem at 7.30pm on Tuesday 8th January. We’ll be conducting a close-reading of the latest Poetry Review in order to give feedback to The Poetry Society. All welcome. You don’t have to be a Poetry Society member to attend.
Then, at 7.30pm on Tuesday 29th January we’ll be back for our regular read-around and discussions of one another’s poems. More incisive and constructive comment than you can shake a stanza at! Again, all welcome and admission FREE.
Meanwhile, to see us into the New Year, John Williams has penned the following for Phil Williams, your Leopard blog host (no relation) …
A YEAR OF BLOGS | for Phil Williams
Some blogs get paragraphs, some a sentence
others the voice of Google Drive or end
in a helpline. Now we all have faces
and come to the glass with the urge
to shove the cursor round and chit-chat,
holding a highball in our hands.
One prod and we appear in Yahoo light,
digitised, uploaded like the third wish
from a Disney film. The tracker clicks somewhere
in its circuitry, bringing up blogs and tweets
to our earbud, updating diaries, pods
and gossipy sheets of news.
The twelve-month life of a Google app,
like the dead arriving to wash the windows,
shrunken voices waiting in the earpiece,
electronic ghosts, tweaky product design
of blog sites where we shift up,
tap and vanish into the next.
